Hello Executive Committee Members,
I wanted to update you all with some actions the Democrats took today to inject pure, unfiltered partisanship into New Hampshire’s fight against this current pandemic.
First, this morning it was announced that the Democrat Governors Association (DGA) was putting up a digital ad slamming Governor Sununu’s handling of the outbreak. It relies on out of context soundbites and makes some outright deceitful claims about how this crisis has hit New Hampshire and how our state has responded.
A report on this along with reactions from the RGA and NHGOP can be found here: https://www.wmur.com/article/nh-primary-source-democratic-group-launches-first-attack-ad-against-sununu-on-coronavirus-response/32121191
Second, New Hampshire Democrat Legislative Leadership filed a lawsuit against Governor Sununu over the oversight of Federal CARES Act Funds.
This shows that Democrat partisanship truly knows no bounds. Democrats would rather unnecessarily delay the release of Federal Funds by filing their partisan, frivolous lawsuit than allow Governor Sununu to utilize the same powers that were enacted through legislation in 2002 for then Governor Jeanne Shaheen.
In times of emergency, the legislature has given the Governor the power to spend Federal funds pertaining to that emergency. The Democrats are merely looking for column inches covering their obstruction while Governor Sununu and Granite State Republicans are getting the job done for the Granite State.
A report on this, along with Chairman Stepanek’s statement, are here: https://www.wmur.com/article/democratic-lawmakers-sue-to-block-republican-sununu-from-spending-covid-19-funds-without-their-approval/32128444
I encourage your committee’s social media pages and your member’s personal social media accounts are used to dispel these Democrat mistruths we have seen today. As always, if anyone is interested in submitting an LTE or Op-Ed to their local paper regarding these topics we are happy to draft one for you or any of your committee members!
Statement from Chairman Stepanek:
“New Hampshire Legislative Democrats’ dedication to partisanship is now on full display during a mass pandemic,” said NHGOP Chairman Stephen Stepanek. “Their decision to sue will only delay the release of CARES Act funds, and they are in truth suing themselves. Existing statute passed by the legislature gives the Governor oversight over the direction of federal funds during a crisis – this suit will only cause delay and prolong New Hampshire’s response to COVID-19. As the vast majority of Granite Staters support Governor Sununu’s response to the crisis, New Hampshire Democrats want to fight him in court instead of fighting COVID-19 together.”
Stay safe out there,
Joe
