House Republican Leader Reacts to Committee Approval of Democrats’ Latest Income Tax Proposal
Concord – House Republican Leader Dick Hinch (R-Merrimack) released the following statement in response to the House Finance Committee voting to recommend HB712, relative to a family and medical leave insurance program, ought to pass with amendment by a vote of 13-7. Republicans unanimously opposed the recommendation.
“Democrats have tried and failed twice already this year to establish an income tax to pay for a state-run insurance program. Republicans have been steadfastly opposed to this concept because there are options out there for our citizens to have access to the same coverage through private insurance carriers, on a voluntary basis, that do not require an income tax,” Hinch stated.
“The amended bill does nothing to ease Republicans’ concerns about the legislation. You can wrap an old fish in paper, but it still stinks. The bottom line is that it is still an income tax, and as long as Democrats’ are looking to take more money out of our constituents’ paychecks, we will be vehemently opposed.”
