The committee amendment contained several pieces of legislation that previously passed the Senate along party lines. Senator Regina Birdsell (R-Hampstead) and Senator James Gray (R-Rochester) issued the following statements:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWhile Governor Sununu and the Secretary of State have already created an emergency system to ensure every person has the ability to vote during the current state of emergency, this legislation goes too far,\u201d<\/em> said Senator Regina Birdsell (R-Hampstead). <em>\u201cThis legislation is nothing more than a democratic wish list of voter legislation from the past decade, rebranded as a response to a global pandemic. CARES Act funding should not be used to fund partisan pet projects.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cEvery voter in New Hampshire must have the confidence that they are safe and not putting themselves or their family\u2019s health in jeopardy when voting,\u201d<\/em> said Senator James Gray (R-Rochester). <em>\u201cUnfortunately, this legislation will permanently change our voting procedures and degrade the reputation New Hampshire has for its clean, fair elections with some of the highest voter participation in the nation.
